SF Supervisor Introduces Food Truck Legislation

Posted by Keith Mizuguchi on Feb 8, 2012 | Comments (0)

San Francisco Supervisor Scott Wiener has introduced legislation that would allow food trucks at college and hospital campuses.

The proposal would alter the city’s planning code, which prohibits food trucks on such campuses if they are outside of commercial districts.

“Allowing institutions to provide their employees, students or patients with additional food options, including food trucks, is a good thing and should be encouraged. It makes no sense to ban these campuses from doing so,” Wiener said in a statement.

Currently, institutions such as San Francisco State University and Kaiser Permanente Medical Center do not allow food trucks on their property.

Wiener also said that he plans on introducing more comprehensive food truck legislation later this year, as he is working with property owners, businesses, mobile food vendors and brick-and-mortar restaurants.
